Can you describe better PROCOS’ new investments?
In a continuous evolving world, PROCOS focused the attention on constant investments, and sustainable growth. The aim of this approach is to provide to our customers the best service and a broadened product portfolio.
Indeed, after CBC acquisition in 2006, PROCOS constantly invested in upgrading the site, expanding R&D and QC capabilities by creating a standalone building dedicated to Quality Unit, increasing manufacturing capacity and introducing new capabilities for a total investments amount of more than 200 million euros in 10 years.
Among the investments PROCOS entered the HPAPI business in 2018, and thanks to years of success in that, with a dedicated, fully integrated workshop equipped with cutting-edge R&D and QC laboratories including 2 cGMP manufacturing lines reaching OEL as low as 10 ng/m3, PROCOS decided to take an additional step in the high potency business, introducing a new expansion by adding 2 more cGMP small scale manufacturing lines and dedicated HPAPI milling units.
HPAPI will not be the last step in PROCOS investments program. Our next challenging step forward has already started with the construction of a brand-new production department titled R11, with 4 floors by 4,000 square meters, which will bring the production capacity of the entire plant to 700 m3 for another total investment of approximately 80 million of Euro. The groundbreaking will be in the second half of 2023, targeting implementation and qualification in 2024, with full operation in 2025.
This investment will increase new working opportunities and further employee expansion that support economic growth for Cameri and surrounding cities. Our target is to provide the most complete service both to our Innovator clients and to the Generic pharmaceutical players who provide sustainable access to high quality medicines for all patients. Moreover, we want to think outside our comfort zone and invest in new business areas in the pharma world.
One of the main topics in Pharma is now the so called: ESG. What is PROCOS doing to match with ESG regulations?
In recent years, the concept of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) has spread widely among companies around the world, transforming the way they manage their business and demonstrating their commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. ESG is a set of criteria for companies to assess and communicate their environmental, social and governance performance, as well as their ethical practices.
Global challenges related to climate change, social equity and corporate integrity have prompted governments and Authorities to take steps to ensure that companies are more aware and accountable for their overall impacts. Particularly in the context of chemical and pharmaceutical companies, the sector has become the subject of increasing attention as its activities can have major implications for both the environment and public health.
Indeed, as of fiscal year 2025, new laws and regulations will come into effect for chemical-pharmaceutical companies, requiring the production of a sustainability report that accounts for ESG aspects.
PROCOS grasped the importance of adopting sustainable practices early on and began its journey towards ESG also with the help of external consultants. To ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach towards sustainability, we have established a Sustainability Team, a cross-functional group involving representatives from different areas of the company that will work together to identify and implement new initiatives, monitor progress, and effectively communicate ESG efforts and achievements.
Even in “not-so-suspicious” times, we have chosen to commit ourselves to sustainability by voluntarily participating in various assessment programs and obtaining the prestigious CSR Ecovadis Gold award. In addition, we have implemented concrete projects aimed at improving various areas of the company, such as a Company Trust Index, the installation of solar panels, the use of waste-to-energy plants to recover energy, the zero consumption of plastic in the company canteen, and the assessment aimed at implementing energy efficiency in offices through home automation.
Looking at the future, our aim is to expand and intensify these efforts, first by collaborating with the entire group of which we are a part, the CBC CO., LTD. Group, and then by also involving our customers and suppliers through the adoption of a common value package and code of ethics. By implementing this type of approach and making it an integral part of our system and our DNA, we are confident that we will be able to achieve great results, not only because ‘good customers require good suppliers in a model of society’ but also because we want to be a relevant part of this model of society. Our determination will guide us in achieving increasingly ambitious goals, driven by an awareness of the crucial role our industry plays in promoting global well-being.
