How Syrris Asia Flow Chemistry System is a powerful tool for development of novel stereoselective synthesis processes for Benaglia Group.

The Benaglia Group has published seven peer-reviewed articles, over two and a half years, highlighting novel stereoselective methodologies and pharmaceutical applications enabled by the Asia Flow Chemistry System.

Syrris, a leading developer of advanced flow chemistry systems, today announced that the Benaglia Group at the Università degli Studi di Milano has published seven peer-reviewed articles, over two and a half years, highlighting novel stereoselective methodologies and pharmaceutical applications enabled by the Asia Flow Chemistry System. These publications showcase the impactful role of Asia in a diverse range of process innovations in continuous flow chemistry.

The Benaglia Group focuses on stereoselective synthesis, dedicating their efforts to the development of novel, sustainable synthetic methodologies and their application to the synthesis of chiral products of pharmaceutical interest, biologically active compounds and fine chemicals. Operating under the direction of Professor Maurizio Benaglia, the laboratory required a highly flexible and reliable flow chemistry platform to support these varied applications. Asia was selected for its modularity and robust construction, enabling the researchers to transition smoothly from traditional batch chemistry to advanced continuous-flow conditions.

Professor Maurizio Benaglia stated, “Asia gives us accurate control, reliability and reproducibility through continuous and precise flow rates.”

Over a period of two and a half years, the research group has published seven peer-reviewed papers describing novel stereoselective processes with pharmaceutical and industrial applications. A notable achievement highlighted in the case study is the telescoped synthesis of the antiepileptic drug levetiracetam using the Asia Photochemistry Reactor. By leveraging this module, the team achieved higher productivity and an improved space-time yield compared to conventional batch reactions, demonstrating the profound benefits of continuous flow chemistry.

Professor Maurizio Benaglia noted, “If you need a modular, reliable, and versatile flow chemistry platform, with a user-friendly control system, Asia is a very useful tool.”
