The heart of the global pharma industry at CPHI 2026 Milan

The pharma world gathered in Milan for CPHI Europe. The 35th edition, hosted by the Italian city, did not disappoint: 62,000 attendees, more than 2,900 exhibiting companies and over 250 expert speakers across more than 130 content sessions.

Tara Dougal, Events Director for Pharma at Informa Markets ad Head of CPHI MIan, interviewed by Chemistry Today, offered an overview of the role of CPHI Europe as an “aggregator” of stakeholders from across the entire global pharmaceutical supply chain:

“The biggest things we’re seeing this year are the impact of geopolitical issues on the wider industry. So actually, our Global Pharma Stage deals with a lot of these issues. We’re looking at things like tariffs from the UK and from the US, price and supply chain challenges. It’s becoming much more present in people’s business decisions. So, we’re looking to address some of the bigger geopolitical aspects of the industry and what the impact this is going to be on pharma companies.”

It is a unique opportunity offered by a global event to source global products, connect with trusted names, source new suppliers and discover the latest innovations. An unmissable opportunity for “unrivalled networking”, to discover, plan and connect with the community.

CPHI is a window onto “industry knowledge”, offering invaluable insights from experts working in the field, as well as the opportunity to “source global products”, meet new suppliers and discover the latest innovations. Finally, the conferences provide an opportunity to learn and draw inspiration from the content agenda.

Thousands of participants filled the halls of Fiera Milano, taking the opportunity to network across the entire global pharma supply chain.

Among the key themes at the heart of the three-day event was resilience, starting with the core strategic role it plays in the supply chain in addressing geopolitical disruptions, medicine security and manufacturing redundancy.

The AI & Tech Theatre, meanwhile, provided a stage for one of the topics at the centre of the global debate: what is, and what will be, the impact of artificial intelligence on the pharmaceutical sector? And how can it create greater efficiency in manufacturing processes (MES, ERP, digital twins), quality and compliance (QMS, LIMS), as well as in commercialization?

Sustainability remains a central theme on the industry’s agenda and this year CPHI Milan launched the Sustainability Summit, dedicated specifically to this topic.

The Summit provided highly specialized information and, above all, an opportunity for knowledge sharing between companies and experts on how to implement concrete and actionable changes.

Sustainability remains a central theme on the industry’s agenda and this year CPHI Milan launched the Sustainability Summit, dedicated specifically to this topic. The aim was to respond to companies’ need to understand the practical implications of sustainability for their businesses and the measures they can adopt to make pharma greener and more sustainable. The Summit provided highly specialized information and, above all, an opportunity for knowledge sharing between companies and experts on how to implement concrete and actionable changes.

There was also a strong focus on biologics and ADCs (Antibody-Drug Conjugates), which were among the absolute protagonists of pharmaceutical innovation and the CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation) supply chain.

It was a highly successful three-day event, culminating in the handover from Milan to Frankfurt for the 2027 edition of CPHI.
