Insights from the ADC Symposium 2026
The ADC Symposium 2026, held in Prague on 16–17 September and organised by TKS event organiser, publisher of Chemistry Today, brought together experts from across the antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) field.
During the on-site event, the Chemistry Today team interviewed selected speakers and industry experts to explore some of the key challenges, developments and opportunities shaping ADC development and manufacturing.
Justin Mason-Home
In this interview, Justin Mason-Home explores the challenges of occupational safety when handling highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPIs) used in ADC development and manufacturing. While toxicological hazards and containment technologies are generally well understood, a key challenge remains the scientific assessment of the actual risks faced by workers. This distinction is essential to selecting appropriate protective measures and preventing safety-related issues from affecting project timelines.
The conversation also highlights the need for a systematic, science-based approach to risk assessment, rather than relying on assumptions or subjective perceptions. As payload potency increases, companies must ensure that containment strategies are proportionate to the risks involved and appropriate to each stage of development, from early research to full-scale manufacturing.
